Pavi Vetriselvan & Marble
Marble and I started our shared life together in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. I was thinking about fostering for a year at this point and finally decided to follow through after my boyfriend and I thought we could use the company during lockdown. I’d always liked the idea of adopting an adult cat or a black cat since they tend to have lower adoption rates overall. I just happened to see her profile one day on PupStarz Rescue’s website and immediately knew she was the one. She was described as “sweet and petite” but also “bold and sassy”. If I remember correctly, she was “a total hoot to have around”. I submitted an application immediately. About a week later, which just so happened to be around my birthday, I was approved! Best birthday ever.
Marble had always been curious and outgoing towards people, but over the 3.5 years that I’ve gotten to know her, she’s really settled into the cuddly and loving part of her personality. She loves to be in the same room as me, often switching up her sleeping spots depending on where I’m spending most of my time. She prefers to be the little spoon when we go to bed. And in the mornings, she loves to stretch her paws and lean up against me to signal that she wants to be picked up.
Marble is also a great conversationalist. As a very vocal cat, I’ve gotten to learn the different trills and meows that indicate anything from “you’ve ruined my perfect nap!” to “where have you been, I’ve been waiting for you!”. Sometimes, it truly feels like we’re talking to each other. She’s the reason I struggle to go into my office 3 times a week. She’s my true crime and reality tv watch buddy. She’s the one I’m excited to see when I come home, knowing that with the turn of my key she’ll be at the door ready to greet me.
People are quick to assume that our pets need us. But I think it’s the opposite. I can’t truly describe the impact Marble has made on my life, but I know that she’s brought so much comfort and joy to me and my loved ones. Here’s to many more years together!
Pavi currently works in tech and lives in the Boerum Hill/Gowanus area. She spends her free time playing pool, painting, and reading.
