Marissa Zappas & Audrey
“Audrey came into my life last winter when I was freezing and alone, in a very NYC way. Unbeknownst to anyone, she also came with a Brillo pad in her stomach that she'd apparently ingested somehow right before she entered Animal Care and Control. I took her home and within three days had to bring her back for surgery. Luckily ACC was wonderful (shout out to Ethan) and took care of her, removing the Brillo pad. Apparently she has Pica, which is the compulsion to eat non-edible things. This happens typically when she's stressed in which case she'll start gnawing on my blow dryer. Through caring for her, I've become better at caring for myself. Right now, career wise, I am in the strenuous yet incredible process of trying to become a perfumer, so every day I'll spend hours smelling and memorizing raw materials and she always sits right next me, her curiosity fully awakened. I'm not sure why, but she loves Eugenol which is the main constituent in clove. I think her fur smells like eggs and toast, and in the morning when she wakes up, like warm watermelon.” @ambrettes Marissa Zappas graduated last year with an MA in anthropology and focused on olfactory sensation. She works at Givaudan Perfume as a lab technician and is training to be a perfumer. She's originally from the Bay Area in Northern California.
