Kyli Singh & Mokai
"I saw Mokai's photo online and immediately called the pet store to reserve him. When I arrived to the pet store, I told the employee that I was here to pick up my cat under my name, "Kyli." The employee told me, "no, that cat is for Hayley. Sorry!" I was so confused and too shy to say anything back, so I got into my car to go home. While driving and feeling bummed, it suddenly hit me -- she must have misheard my name wrong on the phone. I drove back to the pet store, and told her. And she said to me, "wow, you really know your cat." I named him Mokai -- the name after one of my favorite clubs in Miami (I admit - I was still in my clubbing phase!). Three and a half years later, here we are in NYC. It's weird to think that if I didn't turn around to go back to the pet store, I wouldn't have him in my life. I'm so glad I did! Mokai was there for me after a devastating breakup when my immediate impulse was to crawl into bed and wallow away. But when Mokai came into my life, he filled the emotional void I was left with and the road to recovery actually seemed possible. Most nights he slept on the pillow next to my head, and other nights he curled up at my feet. He became my Netflix partner-in-crime. Knowing that I had him by my side somehow made the post-breakup blues more manageable.I guess things fall apart so better things can fall together. Thanks for nursing me back to my happy-go-lucky self, Mokai." Kyli is a travel addict from Florida and an editor at The Huffington Post.
